Spray-On Solar Cells - Really?

I thought that the humble spray can had reached the zenith of its usefulness with the advent of spray-on hair, but you know those scientific types, always fiddling with stuff that ain't broke. A group of scientists has created a new type of solar cell. Unlike conventional solar units, this material is plastic-based, so it can be sprayed on. Everyday objects could become solar collectors. The technology utilizes infrared energy from the sun, as opposed to relying on the visible portion of the spectrum. As a result, these cells will continue to work at night or during cloudy days. The hope is that this method of harnessing solar energy will be much more efficient that current technology allows. The real question is, will it be able to cover a bald spot and recharge my iPod at the same time?
